Pretty Little Liars – Not So Secret Obsession

It is not breaking news that I have a weakness for TV shows on the ABC Family channel, Hulu knows all about my “Switched at Birth” and “Jane by Design” obsessions.  As of this weekend, I have added “Pretty Little Liars” to the list.  It is like if “Mean Girls” was set in “Twin Peaks” with text messaging as their main form of communication.  There’s a weird flute-playing blind girl, an FBI agent named “Agent Cooper,” and enough brooding misunderstood badboys and secretly lesbian girls to make the “normal” kids seem like the weirdos.  There’s murder, vandalism, inappropriate student-teacher relations, back-stabbing, underage drinking, and a lot of texting.  I cannot think of a single character that has not committed at least one felony, maybe a parent or two, but even most of them are in the mix.  It is brilliant.

Here is the wiki:

Set in the fictitious town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, the series (based on the popular series of novels written bySara Shepard) follows the lives of four girls whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their queen bee.  One year later, they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure using the name “A” who threatens to expose their secrets. At first they think it’s the queen bee herself, but after she is found dead, the girls realize that someone else knows their secrets—including long-hidden ones they thought only she knew.

The reason I am obsessed is because of the secondary/supporting characters are a whose-who of tv actors from TV Shows I used to watch and love:  Chad Lowe, Holly Marie Combs, Laura Leighton, Betty Buckley, Bryce Johnson, Nia Peeples, Annabeth Gish, and Charlotte Rae.
