Rear View Mirror – My Week In Review

fuck-01

Just swear, already. If you write A$$ or F*ck, you just look like a fucking asshole that has mistakenly thought by changing a letter or two to a punctuation character, you have cleaned up your act. Don’t write effing or even worse, say it. Always use the full octane version, never water it down for fear of offending your audience. If anyone is offended, they fucking should be. When I see it written (usually on Facebook), I immediately judge the author as a fucking wimp. Fucking say what you fucking mean and if you are too afraid to say what you fucking mean, shut the fuck up! Fuck. I am not saying you should run around telling people to fuck off or go fuck themselves, I am totally fine with it, but my focus is more on the watering down of swear words. Although I would love to hear someone tell someone else to EFF OFF, MOTHER EFFER! Ya, you really told them off, they are defiantly going to lose sleep thinking about those very good points you made.

Plus, being fluent in swear words was positively correlated with other measures of verbal fluency, undermining this common myth about bad words. Speakers who use taboo words understand their expressive nature and nuanced distinctions, implying the presence of more apt linguistic skill. All that and it fucking feels good when you release it from your mouth.

Today is David Rakoff‘s 52nd birthday. He is quite possibly the wittiest writer we have seen this century. The 2oth century had Dorothy Parker and the 21st had David Rakoff. He has also had the great fortune of being an excellent orator of his own works, reading a David Rakoff book is a treasure, but listening to him read it brings color and light and darkness (oh the amazingly beautiful darkness) to the words in the ways he intended. His death is an enormous loss for the world. Please do yourself a favor and read (or listen to) something that he has written, I guarantee you will become a veracious fan. The world is a better place because he was in it and still feels the loss that he has left. #DavidRakoff #ThisAmericanLife #writer #rebel #PNW #PhotoOfTheDay #DailyPhoto #seattle #dailyinspiration #StyleIcon #History #Legend
