Imagine waking up every morning and deciding to live your life in a way that your outsides match your insides. Imagine knowing that if you do that, decide to live your truth, people may stare and snicker and judge. Imagine you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning, configure yourself so you feel beautiful, and say “Fuck Everyone”. You open the front door and face the day.
Could you do that every day? Or would you give up and let outside forces define your life because it’s just easier? Or would you kill yourself?
Transgender people are the strongest and bravest people that I know.
The Trump Trump administration’s newly proposed interpretation of Title IX, which would effectively cut transgender people out of existence in federal policy, is a fundamental perversion of science, medicine, and culture. Despite the language used in the memo, it is neither “grounded in science” nor “objective.” It is an ideologically extreme position that isn’t supported by biology or gender theory. Despite the president’s insistence that such a policy is needed to “protect America,” it is little more than an unjustifiable effort to inflict further suffering on the transgender community.
The memo calls on the Departments of Justice, Health and Human Services, Education, and Labor to adopt a unified interpretation of the meaning of the word “sex” to mean “the sex listed on a person’s birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person’s sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence.”
This is creating policy that it’s sole purpose is to allow discrimination.
Find elected officials that have actively voiced their support of their transgender constituents. If you do not know where they stand, ask. They keep metrics on the questions asked by their voters and will create a formal platform if enough people show concern.
