74-Year-Old Michigan Woman Found Alive After Surviving Car Fire and Days in the Woods

After surviving days of frigid conditions that prevented her from seeking assistance, a 74-year-old Michigan woman who was reported missing last week was discovered alive on Sunday in a forested region.

When investigators noticed a charred car on a private road in Grant Township on Sunday afternoon that matched the description of one connected to a lady who went missing from Norton Shores, they contacted the police, according to authorities.

About 150 yards from the SUV, authorities used a drone to conduct an airborne search and quickly found the missing woman, who was identified by the Norton Shores Police Department as Nancy Bloomquist, a local resident.

According to a statement from the police department, she was last seen on Thursday just before dusk at the Little River Casino, which is approximately 95 miles north of Norton Shores.

According to the police, she got lost on a private road while driving her 2024 GMC Terrain home, causing her car to become disabled.

The region experienced cold temperatures and rain during the course of Thursday and Friday.

According to National Weather Service data, a front brought rain and light snow throughout the period from Thursday to Sunday, and temperatures dropped below 22 degrees.

After the car caught fire, Bloomquist escaped, but she attempted to come back since she had left her phone inside, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.

The SUV may have caught fire when its engine died trying to get off-road in what Mason County Sheriff Kim C. Cole said was life-threatening conditions.

According to the sheriff’s office, Bloomquist got lost while attempting to get back to her car, and her body locked up in the midst of the freezing cold and rain.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, she took refuge next to a fallen tree and reportedly remained there for three days before being found by a search team on Sunday after being seen by a drone.

According to the sheriff’s office, Bloomquist spoke to the deputies that arrived and was conscious. She received exposure treatment after being brought to a hospital.

Norton Shores is located approximately 38 miles northwest of Grand Rapids on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.
