IN MEMPHIS, Tenn.— Memphis Police Department said that a cop was found dead and not responding on a downtown street on Monday.
At noon, police were called to the corner of North Main Street and Adams, close to City Hall and the MPD records building.
Officer Charles H. Cathey wasn’t responding when they found him. He was taken to a nearby hospital and declared dead there.
From what we know so far, Cathey’s death seems to have been a medical emergency. Police say there are no signs of wrongdoing.
“Officer Cathey was a dedicated police officer who had worked for 37 years and did a great job in the Crime Scene Unit on the Bravo Shift.” He has left behind something important, MPD said. “During this hard time, please remember Officer Cathey’s family and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers.”
