United States State Police told USA TODAY that someone died on an Air France flight from Paris to Boston on Tuesday.
On the flight, there was “an unattended death,” and state police said that someone called their Crime Scene Services Section to report it. The Detective Unit of the Suffolk County State Police also came.
When asked if the person was a passenger or a member of the team, the police did not answer. They also did not say exactly when the person died.
The person’s name has not been made public yet, but police say they will do so once their family and friends have been told.
The state cops said they are still looking into it.
How often do medical problems happen on planes? How do you deal with them?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that about 1 in 604 flights have medical problems. Some of the most common crises are passing out, breathing problems, feeling sick, and throwing up. 90% of the time, planes keep flying to their targets during these emergencies.
For the last 10% of medical situations, planes go in a different direction or land somewhere else. Usually, distractions happen when there are major medical problems like cardiac arrest, chest pain, problems during pregnancy or childbirth, or possible strokes.
The CDC said that the death rate is still only about 0.3%, even though medical situations happen all the time. They also said that medical kits usually have medicines like antihistamines, epinephrine, and lidocaine.
