Melisa Cox, who used to be president and CEO of the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce, was charged with six counts of theft, six counts of using a credit card without permission, one count of fraud, and one count of money laundering. She is accused of taking more than $250,000 from the organization.

Based on a news statement from the police, Cox turned herself in to the Ankeny Police Department on Wednesday morning.

In November, she was kicked out of the chamber after an internal audit found problems with her finances. Police in Ankeny said that on November 16, a board member called them to report theft worries.

In the news release, police said that Cox spent the $250,000 over three years using a credit card given to him by the club.
