Colorado State Patrol Trooper and Detainee Hospitalized After Transport Crash

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. – According to CSP, a Colorado State Patrol officer was in an accident while transporting a person in custody.

Because of the accident, westbound Highway 24 was closed at Newt Drive on Sunday.

Police from the State Patrol said the accident happened at 4:48 p.m. while the trooper was transporting someone who had been arrested on a warrant at an earlier traffic stop. A Toyota Prius was also involved in the crash, but troopers said only one person was inside.

The policeman, who hasn’t been named yet, was taken to the hospital just to be safe, they said. According to police, the passenger in the trooper’s car was taken to the hospital by ambulance with injuries that were not life-threatening.
