One Person Has Been Arrested in Connection With the Death of a Border Patrol Agent in the Line of Duty in Vermont

In the line of duty, a U.S. Border Patrol agent and someone else were shot and killed Monday in Vermont, which is just south of the Canadian border, according to officials.

According to the Vermont State Police, the event took place on Interstate 91 in Coventry on Monday at 3:15 p.m.

“One U.S. Both the Border Patrol worker and the person they were after were killed. “Another person was hurt and is being held,” the FBI office in Albany said.

The FBI didn’t say much about what happened, but they did say they are looking into “an alleged assault on a federal officer in connection with a fatal shooting involving a U.S. Border Patrol Agent.”

The FBI worked with people from the United States. Last night, the scene was checked out by the Border Patrol and the Vermont State Police. At the time, police said there was no danger to the public and that Interstate 91 was stopped for investigations.

In a statement released Monday, Benjamine Huffman, acting secretary of homeland security, said, “Today, January 20, a Border Patrol agent assigned to the US Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector was fatally shot in the line of duty.”

For the safety of Americans and our country, our Border Patrol agents put themselves in danger every day. “Our Department, the Agent’s family, loved ones, and coworkers are in my thoughts and prayers,” Huffman said. “The incident is being looked into quickly, and DHS will share more information as soon as it is ready.”

On Monday, Senators Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch, and Rep. Becca Balint put out a statement together that said, “Today, Vermont and the U.S. A Border Patrol agent from the Swanton Sector was shot and killed near Coventry, Vermont. This was a terrible loss for the agency.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the agent’s family and the Border Patrol during this difficult time.” The statement continued, “We will continue to keep an eye on this situation with federal and state authorities, and we appreciate the first responders and emergency medical service providers who came to the scene.”
