MISSOURI — Missouri politicians have suggested new bills aimed at immigration. One idea includes a $1,000 reward for bounty hunters who report undocumented immigrants who have entered the state illegally.
A new bill, HB 120, sponsored by Republican Representative Jim Murphy from St. Louis County, requires employers to check the immigration status of their workers.
Currently, Missouri law says that state employers must check the immigration status of their employees. The proposed HB 120 wants to add private employers and businesses to this requirement.

If an employer breaks these rules, their business license will be suspended for 120 days. If they break the rules again by not reporting their workers’ immigration status, it will become a serious crime (class D felony).
If the bill is approved, it will begin on January 1, 2026.
Missouri Senate Bill 72 is a new plan that would stop undocumented immigrants from voting, getting a driver’s permit or license, receiving public benefits, or becoming legal residents of Missouri if they are found to have entered the state illegally.
The plan will improve a system that lets “bounty hunters” report immigrants who have crossed the border illegally using a free phone number, email, and an online reporting site.
