Montgomery County, Maryland — A fire took place at an apartment in Wheaton on Sunday night, forcing one family to leave their home.
In a post on X at 9:14 p.m., Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) said crews were going to a fire in the bedroom of a two-story townhouse in the 10800 block of Bucknell Drive.
When rescuers arrived, they saw large flames coming from the second floor of the house. Firefighters quickly put out the fire, and there were no recorded injuries.
Piringer said that a smoke alarm in the house warned the three people about the fire, and they were able to get out safely with their dog. Fire officials reported that the fire started when a space heater was put too close to a bed, causing it to catch fire.
