Three persons, including the suspect, have been killed and two police officers have been injured in a shooting at a grocery shop in Northern Indiana.
The terrible event happened at Martin’s Supermarket on East Jackson Boulevard in Elkhart, Indiana, which is about 15 miles east of South Bend, on the evening of January 27, 2024.
The Elkhart Police Department states that after receiving reports of shooting, officers arrived on the site at approximately 5:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found two people inside the store who had been shot and killed.
The suspect was met by the authorities outside the supermarket as they started their investigation. The officers and the suspect engaged in gunfire during the ensuing altercation.
Two police officers were hurt in the altercation. Later that evening, one of the cops received treatment and was discharged from the hospital, while the other officer stayed there in “fair but stable condition,” according to the police.
Sadly, during the altercation with the officers, the suspect was shot and died.
Authorities have not yet disclosed any information regarding the reason for the shooting or what sparked the firing inside the establishment.
After the incident, the Elkhart Police Department reassured the public that there was no further threat to the neighborhood.
