Employee Fatally Struck by Vehicle at Charlotte Douglas International Airport

An American Airlines worker at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was hit and killed by a ramp vehicle on the tarmac on Monday, officials said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department received a call at 9:38 a.m. about a worker who was hit by a car on the tarmac. The person was declared dead at the scene, according to the police.

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport reported that a single ramp vehicle from an airline was involved in the incident, but they didn’t provide any more information.

The airport stated that it is cooperating with airlines and emergency responders in the investigation and offering help as required.

American Airlines expressed that they are very upset about the accident and are committed to helping everyone affected during this tough time.

Accidents involving airplanes have been reported more often lately, but worker deaths at airports are still rare. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported five deaths in 2023 and three deaths in 2022.
