SAN LUIS, AZ — The federal government is increasing deportations, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection is also actively working to stop drugs from entering the U.S. They provided two examples of this effort at the San Luis port of entry this week.
The first incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Officers saw a 23-year-old American man in a Chevy car trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico and asked him more questions.
Officers used special tools to check the car and found something unusual inside the floor of the sedan. A Customs and Border Protection dog found drugs.
They looked inside the car and found 12 packages hidden under the floor’s rugs. They held 117 pounds of meth.
The second drug find happened on Thursday at about 11:30 p.m. A 42-year-old man from Mexico was driving a Ford truck and was asked to pull over for extra checks.
Officers used technology to detect something unusual in the speaker box at the back of the truck.

They searched the truck and discovered 69 pounds of cocaine in 25 bags, which together are worth around $805,359, according to CBP.
It is not clear what charges the two suspects have. Their names are not publicly shared.
