According to authorities, a small medical plane carrying six passengers crashed Friday night in a neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia, resulting in an explosion and the burning of multiple homes. No one on board is known to have survived. According to Philadelphia police, several individuals on the ground were hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the aircraft, a Learjet 55, had just taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport on its way to Springfield, Missouri, when it crashed.
The jet took off from the airfield at around 6:07 p.m. and crashed into a neighborhood close to the Roosevelt Mall. About five minutes later, at 6:12 p.m., the first emergency calls were placed.
According to Philadelphia police, the collision happened at Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue.
Sean Duffy, the newly confirmed Transportation Secretary, reported that the plane had six passengers. Four crew members, a pediatric patient, and the patient’s escort were among the six, according to a statement from Jet Rescue Air Ambulance.
Mel Bower, a hospital representative, said the little patient was a Mexican girl who had been treated at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia. When the plane crashed, she was headed home when her treatment was over.
“It’s extremely hard and extremely difficult, those that were involved directly in her care were very aware that she was going to be traveling home and there had actually been a sendoff for her today,” Bower stated.
He claimed that this had a profound effect on the Shriners hospital community and that their patients are like family. According to Bower, the hospital offers care that extends beyond the clinical realm to the individual level.
Bower responded, “I’m positive that she did,” when asked if she had a good time at the party marking the conclusion of her treatment earlier Friday.

According to Bower, the two medical professionals aboard the aircraft were connected to the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance rather than Shriners.
The six passengers on the plane that crashed in Northeast Philadelphia were Mexican nationals, according to a statement translated by the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Jet Rescue Air Ambulance had stated that it was unable to “confirm any survivors,” and that the names of those on board would not be made public until family members were informed.
Numerous persons on the ground were injured, according to the police. Six individuals were transported to Temple’s Jeanes Campus, a representative for Temple University Hospital said.
According to the hospital, three patients received treatment and were discharged, while three others were admitted in fair health.
Investigating the crash are the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. The probe will be headed by the NTSB.
