Franklin County, Missouri – Emily Hernandez, a Missouri woman pardoned by President Trump for her involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, was punished on Wednesday in connection with a drunken driving collision.
Hernandez was sentenced to ten years in jail in connection with a fatal crash in January 2022, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, USA Today, and other media outlets.
According to investigators, Hernandez, who was 22 at the time of the collision, was traveling the wrong way on westbound I-44 in a Volkswagen Passat when he collided with the front of a Buick Enclave. The Enclave collided with cable barriers after being driven into the median.
The crash killed one Enclave passenger, 32-year-old Victoria Wilson of St. Clair, Mo. Hernandez was later arrested for driving while intoxicated, which resulted in his death.
“What I did was ungodly, and I will live with that shame for the rest of my life,” she said in court on Wednesday, according to the Post-Dispatch. “I am sorry for what I did and if I could take it all back, I would.”
According to the Post-Dispatch, Hernandez received nearly the maximum punishment for the offenses, receiving 10 years for Wilson’s death and 7 years for injuries caused to another passenger, albeit the terms are running concurrently.
Hernandez was one of approximately 1,500 people pardoned by Trump after facing charges in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. She was captured on camera holding then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) nameplate and recording a video of herself taking or carrying other items she saw at the Capitol.
Hernandez was arrested on accusations relating to the insurgency on January 19, 2021, and eventually accepted a plea deal. She was subsequently sentenced to 30 days in jail and a year of supervised release.
