A courageous parent’s quick action stopped what could have been a terrible mass casualty shooting at a high school band competition in Texas on Saturday.
One person was hurt when an elderly shooter in his 80s opened fire during the Texas Color Guard Circuit drumline competition at Pasadena Memorial High School.
A parent in the audience, however, hurried over to the gunman and tackled him to the ground, stopping additional damage before the situation could worsen.
Officials said the shooter entered the school grounds, crouched behind a pillar for a few minutes, then took out a small-caliber gun and opened fire on the audience.
A young adult man who worked as a percussion technical consultant for the band of the Angleton Independent School District was shot in the shoulder by the shooter.
The sufferer was taken to the hospital right away, but their injuries are not life-threatening, and their status is stable.
The parent who witnessed the incident moved swiftly to attack the shooter as it developed. The father successfully disarmed the old gunman and stopped any more casualties by bringing him to the ground in a matter of seconds.
At a press conference, Pasadena Police Chief Jerry Wright stated, “Within 60 seconds, a suspect was disarmed and they prevented further shooting by this suspect.”
“Several good Samaritans” swiftly backed the parent’s actions and hurried to help bring down the shooter.
Several of these people were also Pearland Independent School District parents, and they acted quickly to assist in holding the gunman until the police could come.
