Officials in Fond du Lac County shared new information about the situation where a man died after driving a UTV into Lake Winnebago.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says that the 67-year-old man from Taycheedah who died on February 1 was Clay Creighton. The event occurred on February 1 at 12:25 p.m.
Authorities got a call saying that two people fell into open water on Lake Winnebago.
The statement says the two guys were in the water for around 20 minutes before anyone saw them. The two guys were taken off the ice and taken to a hospital.
The passenger died at the hospital, and the driver was treated for symptoms linked to being too cold. Officials stated that the two men were wearing seatbelts but were not wearing helmets or life jackets.
Officials said that not knowing where the crack in the ice was likely contributed to the crash. The crack was said to be marked by fallen Christmas trees.
