During an early-morning theft on January 25, a brash criminal took about $15,000 from contribution boxes inside a synagogue in Brooklyn, according to informants and police.
The Congregation Agudath Sholom, situated in Brooklyn’s Kensington district on 18th Avenue close to East 19th Street, is where the heist took place.
Under cover of darkness, the suspect—clad in a suit and wearing a mask—entered the house of worship shortly after one in the morning.
The robber can be seen entering the synagogue with stealth in surveillance footage that the NYPD published on Tuesday.
The suspect, dressed in business attire and sporting a baseball cap, is seen walking up to the synagogue’s door, cautiously opening it, and then sneaking inside.
The man is seen in the video wandering about the premises and going into several of the rooms where the donation boxes were stored.
The large sum of money that the synagogue’s members kindly donated to these boxes is witnessed being taken by the robber.
Once the money was taken, the burglar turned around and left, making sure to lock the door behind him.
The suspect is then seen on camera idly leaving the site, moving south onto Coney Island Avenue after traveling east on 18th Avenue.

Thankfully, no injuries were recorded, though authorities did not say if anybody else was inside the synagogue when the crime occurred.
In the early hours of the morning, the theft took place, shocking the town and leaving many in disbelief at the crime’s boldness.
Law enforcement authorities promptly launched an investigation to find the culprit, leaving the Congregation Agudath Sholom, a prominent synagogue in the area, to handle the fallout from the crime. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the thief’s identity is being urged to come forward by the authorities.
