KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KGKC Telemundo Kansas City is grieving the death of one of its sports reporters who passed away while in New Orleans for the Super Bowl LIX.
Adan Manzano, 27, died on Wednesday in New Orleans while on duty to cover the Super Bowl for both Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, KGKC said in a news release.
KGKC hasn’t explained how Manzano died but mentioned they are working with the police as they look into this sad incident.
KGKC sent out this message about Manzano:
“Adan was a dedicated professional and an emerging talent who showed great skill in his work.” We will really miss Adan and his love for sports, as well as everything he did for our local community. We are thinking of his family and loved ones and send our deepest sympathies during this tough time.
“Steve Downing, the general manager of KGKC, said he was very excited to be able to cover such a historic event, especially the chance for a three-peat.”
Adan was a talented young man with a promising future. He was excited about sports, which is what he wrote about. “He’s also very passionate about his community,” Downing said.
Manzano was the only reporter from Telemundo Kansas City in New Orleans to cover the game.
Downing says they’ll rely on their continued relationship with TICO sports during a time of tremendous loss.
“He would have wanted us to keep going and do our best to bring all the color all the excitement all that the Super Bowl means to Kansas City.”
This was Manzano’s third year in a row covering the Super Bowl for Telemundo KC.
He will be celebrated with honors during Friday night’s local Telemundo news in Kansas City.
