Illinois at Risk of Losing EV Charging Funds; Gov. Pritzker Promises to Fight Back

CHICAGO – Illinois is one of the states that has been told by the U.S. Department of Transportation that it will no longer receive funds for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Governor JB Pritzker has promised to have one million electric cars on the road by 2030.

This weekend, there will be 65 different electric vehicle types at the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place.

The auto show will feature different car brands, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. You will also have the chance to test drive some of the cars. It’s all meant to help put you in the driver seat and imagine what having an EV would look like for you.

This also means considering charging sites, which the state was planning to make available.

Brian Urbaszewski, who leads environmental health programs at the Respiratory Health Association, talked about how Illinois might be affected after the Trump administration stopped the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

“We should move forward in the electric vehicle revolution, as it will improve everyone’s health,” Urbanszewski said.
