Police in Miami Gardens say a driver has been charged with vehicular murder after a crash Saturday evening that killed five people, four of whom were children.
Antonio Wilcox, Jr., 25, was recognized as the driver by Miami Gardens police.
The five people who were killed have not been named yet.
Speed and drinking played a part in the crash, Miami Gardens police Sgt. Emmanuel Jeanty told reporters at the scene of the accident Saturday night.
CBS Miami, a news partner of The Herald, reports that Miami Gardens police say a driver in a black KIA SUV going south on Northwest 37th Avenue near 170th Street hit a white Nissan Altima with a woman and five children inside and smashed it into a Cadillac Escalade.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said that after the 5:50 p.m. crash, they had to free three people who were stuck. Four kids and the woman were driven to the Memorial Regional Trauma Center in Hollywood, and one kid was flown there.
Four more people were taken to a Broward hospital.
