• You must have been involved in at least two accidents within the two years immediately preceding the expiration of your license.
• Any three incidents that occurred within the three years immediately preceding the expiration of the license are considered to be serious.
• A suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol during the two years immediately preceding the date on which the license will expire.
• A violation point total that is larger than one within the two years immediately preceding the date on which the license is set to expire.

It is recommended by the Department of Motor Vehicles of California that drivers who are required to take the written test do it online.
