Man Hit with ‘Ridiculous’ $2,800 Fine as HOA Charges Residents for Unloading Groceries

A RESIDENT has been hit with multiple parking ticket fees from his HOA that add up to an unbelievable $2,800.

Alberto Hernandez got fined a lot of money for several HOA fractures, some of which he had nothing to do with.

His HOA fined him for parking in front of his garage and leaving his car unattended while unloading groceries.

The man from San Jose told KNTV that most of the time, it wasn’t his cars that broke the rules, so he didn’t think the fine would apply to him.

Hernandez said in Spanish, “Those weren’t my cars.” “Because I own the property, I thought it was unfair that they sent me the ticket.”

Hernandez is one of many people in San Jose, California’s Garden Park Village, who have been fined huge amounts for breaking the community’s rules.

Liliana Alvarez lives in a condo complex and has owned her unit since 2009. She has criticized the HOA for fines that she calls “ridiculous.”

Alvarez told KNTV, “They’re giving us ridiculous fines and they don’t care about our privacy.”

“Those are the two main things that worry me as a resident of that area.” It’s not just landlords who are affected; renters are too.

Some residents say that they rarely win their appeals, even though they can do so through a Zoom call.

Alvarez said, “It makes me angry because this is supposed to be our home.”

“Some people have to choose between paying rent and fines worth thousands of dollars.”

Ten times, Alvarez has been given fines for driving violations, having her fence too high, and putting wood over her air conditioner.

A fine was given to both Hernandez and Alvarez because they were not at their cars while they were moving groceries into their homes.

She said, “I have a truck that doesn’t fit in the garage.” “So I need to take my groceries out of the car.”

Each of Alavarez’s 10 parking tickets cost $175, for a total of over $1,800 in fines.

She said, “They’re giving us ridiculous fines and don’t care about our privacy.”

Alvarez said that the HOA put up security cameras in early 2024, which made the fines for residents worse.
