S.C. College Gets Creative: Free Nachos and Hot Dogs to Attract More Football Fans

After brainstorming numerous ideas, Coastal Carolina University decided that offering complimentary meals at the concession stand would be a delicious approach to increase football ticket sales.

Next season, Brooks Stadium football fans will be allowed to order as much popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, and soda as their bellies will hold.

According to Coastal Carolina athletics spokesperson Ryan Koslen, the promotion is modeled after an NFL program conducted by the Atlanta Falcons, which provides inexpensive menu items to fans situated in specific parts of its stadium.

The goal of the promotion is to increase the number of football fans in the stadium for the upcoming season.

“We’re trying to figure out how to sell more tickets while doing something for the fans,” Koslen stated on Tuesday.

Purchasing tickets Customers can return as much as they’d like and will be able to order four complimentary products each time they visit the concession stand. However, they will need to use a university app that will be released soon to scan each journey.

According to Koslen, Coastal Carolina is the only university in the nation that offers this kind of deal, even though the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball provide free refills on sodas bought from their “Birdland Value Menu.”

“We’re looking for ways to differentiate ourselves,” he stated. “We threw a lot of ideas at the wall.”

In another promotion, if the men’s and women’s basketball teams had won a total of 36 games, the school would have refunded basketball season ticket holders. However, they didn’t. A total of 33 games were won by them.

“Our fans are the heartbeat of Teal Nation, and we’re always looking for ways to elevate their game-day experience,” the vice presidents for intercollegiate athletics, Chance Miller, stated.

Coastal Carolina, located at Conway, South Carolina, has roughly 10,300 students. This past season, it averaged 18,622 spectators per game and is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. There are 20,000 seats in the stadium.

According to university officials, season tickets for seats at the 50-year line will cost $30 more this year than they did the prior two seasons.

According to Koslen, they expect that the fans who purchase pizza, chicken tenders, burgers, and alcoholic drinks, as well as those who use food trucks and other merchants to get the freebies, will partially make up for the losses of past years.

“We want to build our fan base,” he stated. “This has garnered a lot of attention with people wondering how it will work.”

On April 5, during the spring showcase, fans will have their first taste of the complimentary meal.

“Just come out for one game, it will be fun,” Kolsen stated.
