Two weeks after celebrating her sixteenth birthday, a Florida girl was allegedly left for dead in a nature preserve after being stabbed by her ex-boyfriend in a “very violent” attack.
According to the Hernando Sun, on the morning of March 27, a hiker discovered Abbriella Elliott’s body between 50 and 100 feet within the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead in Hernando County.
A witness reported seeing Elliott leave her house at around one in the morning, according to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhui. They suspect she went “to go meet an individual who was likely the person who killed her.”
“We could tell pretty quickly that there was a lot of passion and a lot of violence involved in the particular death so we were relatively confident that it wasn’t a random act,” Nienhuis stated. “It was nothing short of very violent.”
According to Nienhui, a “edged weapon” was most likely used to kill the teenager.
According to Fox 13 Tampa, 16-year-old Cameron Cubel was taken into custody on March 28 on first-degree murder charges related to Elliott’s murder.
Nienhuis stated without additional explanation that the victim knew her accused killer.
Cubel is Elliott’s daughter’s ex-boyfriend, though, and the two have been separated for six months, Elliott’s parents informed.
According to her parents, Elliot was murdered two weeks after turning sixteen.
Although the nature of the youths’ relationship has not yet been confirmed by the police, they did note that Cubel had previously been charged with violence.
In a GoFundMe created to assist the family with burial costs, Elliot’s mother, Danyel Caltagirone, said of her daughter that she was “always smiling and singing and acting goofy.”
“Abby’s spirit shone brightly, and she had an extraordinary ability to make others feel loved and cherished.” In an obituary, the teen’s relatives went on to say, “Her laughter and warmth filled every room, and she had an unwavering ability to lift the spirits of everyone she met.”
Leo Lind, Elliot’s stepfather, stated at a prayer vigil on March 30 that she would have been “so happy” with the turnout for the celebration of her life.
“The light she brings to people, her smiles, she’s just fun to be around,” he stated.
He remarked, “She’s just fun to be around, with her smiles and the light she brings to people.”
“I’m just so happy, and I know she’s here with us, and she saw the turnout.”
