LOS ANGELES – Authorities said Wednesday that a 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a stabbing at a protest for immigrants’ rights in downtown Los Angeles that seriously hurt another teen.
Police in Los Angeles said the fight started at Grand Park, which is at 200 North Spring Street, just after 1:30 p.m. on February 7.
Police arrived and found a 17-year-old boy victim who had been stabbed. The young man was taken to the hospital by paramedics from the L.A. Fire Department and was reported as being in critical condition when they got there.
Few details have been released about the stabbing, and it’s still not clear what happened. However, Sky5’s cameras caught at least one fight starting after the attack.
A witness who only gave his name as Will told KTLA that he didn’t think the suspect in the stabbing was part of the peaceful protest that had gathered several hundred people, many of whom were students walking out of schools across the city to protest the Trump administration’s plans to deport a lot of people.
He said, “I went to the protest and someone showed up who wasn’t even there.” “I caught it all on film.”
After the stabbing, protest organizers allegedly told protesters to leave the park because it was too dangerous to stay there.
“Spring Street will be closed from Temple Street to 1st Street while investigators gather evidence and locate witnesses,” the LAPD said late that night.They told people to stay away from the area.
Police say the teen suspect in the stabbing was arrested by LAPD officers from the Rampart Division just before 5 p.m. on February 11 and booked for attempted murder.
There was no new information about the 17-year-old victim’s state.
