COLUMBIA, S.C – People at the University of South Carolina got a message late Monday night saying that classes would not be canceled on Tuesday because of a winter storm.
At 4:38 p.m., USC initially announced in a message that all Tuesday afternoon classes would be canceled due to bad weather.
That’s how much snow Richland County is expected to get tomorrow. Our First Alert Weather team says it will be less than an inch.
According to a news release from USC, the government buildings of Richland County closed at noon on Tuesday, and so did USC.
However, during Tuesday’s winter storm, Gov. Henry McMaster told all state offices in Richland County, including state colleges and universities, to stay open.
At 4:44 p.m., that order was shared on social media.
“Until told otherwise, state government offices in Richland and Lexington counties will be open for business and normally run tomorrow,” Gov. McMaster said on X. Employees of the state in Richland and Lexington counties should go to work tomorrow as usual.
Around 5 p.m., an email sent to WIS News 10 said that USC was told about the choice to stay open.
“Students should plan to go to all of their classes tomorrow unless they are told otherwise,” the university said in an update. “The university will send an update on Tuesday as soon as they have more weather information.” As always, supervisors are willing to work with workers who are having trouble making plans.
