A lady from Glendale Heights has been charged with a crime for allegedly neglecting an elderly patient at a long-term care home in Bensenville, which caused the patient to sustain significant injuries.
Kwame Raoul, the Attorney General of Illinois, claims that the caregiver, who is no longer employed, did not verify the temperature of the water before putting the patient in a hot shower.
According to Raoul’s office, the event took place in June 2024 at a Ray Graham Association (RGA) residence in Bensenville.
The facility provides 24/7 care for those with disabilities or healthcare requirements.
Raoul claims that Darnitia Conner did not check the temperature of the water before putting the elderly resident in a hot shower, which resulted in second-degree burns on most of the patient’s lower body.
It is also stated that Conner attempted to hide the occurrence by not informing the medical professionals exactly how serious the injuries were.
“Residents of long-term care facilities and community-based group homes rely on caretakers for their health and wellness,” Raoul said in a statement. “All Illinois residents deserve to be safe in their homes, and it is appalling that any caretaker would cause serious harm to an elderly or vulnerable patient in their care.”
Sheriff James Mendrick of DuPage County commended the cooperation between local and state officials that resulted in the charges.
“The Sheriff’s Department takes the health, safety, and well-being of all the residents of DuPage County seriously. It was especially disturbing to find a caregiver in a position of trust cause bodily harm to one of its residents because of willful abuse and neglect,” Mendrick stated.
Following an incident involving an elderly patient in her care at a long-term care facility, Conner, 58, has been charged with several offenses.
She faces two counts of criminal neglect and three counts of abuse of a patient of a long-term care institution, both of which carry a maximum punishment of five years in jail.
Conner is also accused of one count of reckless behavior, which carries a maximum sentence of three years in jail.
Conner is charged in connection with an incident in which he allegedly injured an elderly patient who was severely burned during a hot shower.
According to reports, the scalding water seriously injured the patient under Conner’s care, which prompted an investigation and the ensuing criminal charges.
Conner has entered a not guilty plea to the accusations. Her legal team is getting ready to contest the charges in court, and she insists she is innocent.

The case is still being investigated, and Conner’s future as well as the establishment where the incident occurred may be significantly impacted by the trial’s verdict.
Given the possible long-term consequences for the victim and the significance of safeguarding patients in long-term care homes, the charges are treated severely.
