On Thursday, the Columbus Police Department said an officer has been put on administrative leave after shooting back and hitting a suspect.
Police reported that the shooting involving an officer happened near 42nd Street and Lakewood Drive.
Police were called to a domestic dispute at about 1:18 a.m., as stated in a news statement.
Police reported that a man shot at an officer when the police arrived. The cop shot back to stop the threat, according to the news report.
The cops say the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
Police announced that the Georgia Bureau of probe will handle the probe.
CPD’s Office of Professional Standards will carry out an internal review, according to the announcement.
The officer’s name has not been made public. The Ledger-Enquirer has asked for the officer’s name, how long they have been working, the bodycam film, and the police department’s rules on using force.
A news report on the GBI’s website names the suspect as 25-year-old Jacob Kyle Brannon. The GBI reported that Brannon was shot and hurt in the attack.
The GBI reported that Brannon fled the scene when an officer came and shot at the officer with a handgun while escaping. The cop shot back and hit Brannon several times, according to the GBI.
