Couple Accused of Embezzling $5 Million from Southern California Company, Police Report

LOS ANGELES – A former married couple from Orange County was caught over the weekend for stealing nearly $5 million from a local business, according to officials.

An investigation that started three years ago revealed that Gurpreet Kaur Lakhiani, 41, a company manager, and her then-husband Deepak Lakhiani, 40, stole millions of dollars from a company in Irvine, according to officials from the Irvine Police Department.

The couple allegedly stole money from 2012 to 2021 and is thought to have used it to support a luxurious lifestyle, buying expensive cars, gold, real estate, and traveling.

“The loss was so big that the business had to shut down, leaving many people without jobs,” said Irvine cops.

The two people were arrested and taken to Orange County Jail. They face $4.4 million in charges, which include embezzlement, grand theft, money laundering, and getting stolen property.

Investigators didn’t share how the couple took the money, and they also didn’t reveal the name of the company that was stolen from.
