Deadly Blizzard Hits Midwest: 3 Confirmed Dead as Tornadoes, Flooding, and Snow Strike

A violent winter storm that delivered blizzard conditions to areas of the Midwest was part of a spreading storm that produced a perilous mix of extreme weather, including tornadoes, flooding, heavy snow, blizzards, and high winds.

At least three people were killed as a result of this storm.

On Wednesday morning, officials in the Des Moines, Iowa area issued a warning to residents to remain inside their homes as the winter storm blasted through the area with gusts of wind that were extremely strong.

In the video that was uploaded by Iowa State Trooper Paul Gardner, the circumstances on U.S. Route 20 in Webster and Calhoun counties are shown. Gardner said that there was no visibility available and that the conditions were “completely whiteout.”

It was reported by the Iowa State Patrol that there was a significant accumulation of automobiles, and visibility was almost nonexistent on Interstate 80 near Newton and in other portions of the state.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) reported 106 accidents and assisted over 400 drivers as of Wednesday night.

In the course of the storm’s passage over the Plains on Tuesday evening, winds howled through the states of Kansas and Nebraska, resulting in the deaths of three people who were attributed to the wintry weather.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, two of the fatalities occurred as a result of a collision between two vehicles that occurred late on Tuesday afternoon along a snow-covered Interstate 80 in southern Nebraska.

In the vicinity of Grand Island, the two individuals were driving their SUV when they lost control of it, crossed the median, and then collided with a semi-truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.

According to the National Security Police, the two people who were inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the semi-truck was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The National Safety Patrol has stated that severe winter weather played a role in the collision, which is still being investigated. Furthermore, they said that they had reacted to a total of 28 accidents and carried out over 300 occurrences that were related to the weather.

The Omaha Police Department has confirmed that a man was involved in the third fatality that occurred in Omaha on Wednesday morning.

Up to the time of the autopsy, however, there was no other information available regarding the cause of death of the individual.

There were also five distinct instances that required the police to respond to, all of which included people who were suffering from the affects of the cold weather.

There were three people who were sent to a nearby hospital with stable vital signs, according to the officials.

The wind speed in Hugoton, Kansas, reached 93 miles per hour on Tuesday. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, there were multiple additional reports of wind gusts over 80 miles per hour across western Kansas.

The city of St. Joseph, Missouri, experienced wind gusts that above 50 miles per hour for almost ten hours in a row.
