Despite worries from legal organizations that some people have been misdiagnosed and deported without following the proper procedures, Secretary Kristi Noem of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated she is certain the prisoners being transported to a massive prison in El Salvador are where they should be.
Last week, Noem visited Tecoluca, El Salvador, to take a tour of the Terrorist Confinement Center, or CECOT.
As part of its efforts to deport people who entered the nation illegally under former President Biden, the Trump administration has flown criminal migrants to CECOT in recent weeks, many of them are reported to be members of Venezuelan gangs.
In an interview on “Special Report,” she stated Monday, “I trust our intelligence agencies and the intelligence individuals that are within the Department of Homeland Security, that the individuals who are there are members and a part of this organization and have worked with them,” referring to the international terrorist groups MS-13 and Tren de Aragua (TdA).
“And while we were there at that prison, we not only talked about how to identify these members of these terrorist organizations, but what they did, [the] actions they took, the case files we built on them — and how we verified that those individuals should be there in that prison.”
Due to a temporary restraining order (TRO) granted by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in mid-March that halted all flights to El Salvador, the White House is currently involved in a legal dispute regarding its authority to deport alleged TdA members under the 1798 wartime Alien Enemies Act.
Last Monday, the Trump administration requested that the Supreme Court reverse Boasberg’s TRO so that it could proceed with deporting alleged gang members.
President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador declared Monday that 17 alleged gang members who he claims were connected to TdA and MS-13 had been transferred and arrived.
“All individuals are confirmed murderers and high-profile offenders, including six child rapists,” Bukele stated on X. “This operation is another step in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.”
Bukele agreed to take in more of the “worst of the worst” at CECOT after she spoke with him during her trip, according to Noem.
Using “fear” to “control” people, the DHS secretary reacted to Democrats’ assertions that any foreign national suspected of having ties to gangs or cartels may be deported without due process.

“We are doing due diligence to make sure that we’re going after these criminals [who] have perpetuated violence on American citizens, and we’re removing them from our country,” Noem stated.
Since President Donald Trump took office in late January, she said, the White House has deported more than 800 TdA members and more than 120 individuals on the known terrorist watch list.
