Emergency Recall for BMW and Mini: Brake Systems Compromised by Weld Failure

A problem that impacts some Rolls-Royce, BMW, and MINI vehicles manufactured for the 2023–2025 model years has been identified by North America.

Unstable welds in the servomotor of the integrated brake control module can result in the loss of power brake assist, which also stops the rear brakes from operating.

Dynamic stability control and the antilock braking system may also be malfunctioning, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The German manufacturer discovered the recall problem in July 2024 while testing the integrated brake control module at the end of its production line.

BMW and Mini cars are being recalled immediately because of a weld failure that affects the brakes.

A later engineering evaluation found that the servomotor’s hollow shaft had been soldered incorrectly.

It’s also crucial to remember that the integrated brake module is supplied by Continental Automotive Technologies GmbH, which has its headquarters close to Frankfurt.

Dealers have been instructed to replace dubious modules with brand-new, specification-compliant parts. Owner notice letters will not be accessible until around November 8, 2024, in the interim.

Testing revealed that the weak welding could shatter when a lot of braking force is applied.

BMW also highlights that the front axle’s fully mechanical braking remains unchanged even when a higher pedal effort is needed.

Only the emergency brake function would be functional in the case of a back axle problem.

Among the most diverse vehicles on the list of affected models are the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre and the 2025 MINI Cooper.

Along with a number of Bimmers such the i7, 750e, and X1 through XM, the Countryman is also remembered. The oldest cars produced for the 2023 model year were the six-pot 740i luxobarge, the family-sized X7, and the previously mentioned X1.

To the best of BMW North America’s knowledge, this problem has not been reported or complained about in the US market.
