Two people were hurt after arguing with their attackers in two different cutting instances that occurred in New York City’s subway system during the Monday night commute, according to police reports.
Only 20 minutes separated the two instances, which both featured violent attacks following tense exchanges between the victims and their attackers.
The first event happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the 4 and 6 subway lines’ station on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, located at 86th Street. Following an altercation with an unnamed male, police say a 28-year-old woman was assaulted on the platform.
Authorities said that during the altercation, the man, who was dressed entirely in black, slashed the victim across her face. The victim was promptly taken to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center after the assault.
Thankfully, she received medical attention and was classified in stable condition. The suspect is still at large, and authorities have not made any arrests in relation to the event.
Twenty minutes or so later, there was another attack in Brooklyn. During an altercation on a southbound L train as it was rolling into the Wilson Avenue station, a 30-year-old man was cut in the neck and back by an attacker.
As with the last occurrence, the victim was attacked after the two people allegedly argued. After police arrived on the scene, they took the man to a local hospital, where his status was listed as stable.
Similar to the first attack, no one has been taken into custody, and the identity of the culprit in this second assault is still unknown.
These assaults draw attention to a troubling pattern of violence in the New York City subway system, which is frequently congested with commuters during rush hour.

Although the specifics of the disputes that led to these attacks are still unknown, it is apparent that emotions quickly increased and that several people were seriously hurt.

Although the NYPD is actively looking into both cases, they have not yet revealed any additional information regarding the possible culprits or motivations behind either attack.
The occurrences have sparked worries among commuters in New York City, especially about safety during peak hours, despite the ongoing investigations.
Although officials have been working on a number of solutions to address the issue, including as increased patrols and surveillance, subway violence—particularly random attacks—has long been a concern in the city.
