A Florida Highway Patrol officer showed why it’s crucial to avoid driving on the roads.
An FHP car slid into the middle just after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday while going west on Interstate 10 near Exit 28. After several minutes of trying to get back on the road, another FHP car and a semi-truck came and were able to help pull the car onto the road.
Most cars seem to be listening to the police and staying off the roads, but there is still some slow traffic.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for northwest Florida until 6 a.m. on Wednesday. They expect snow to accumulate between 2 and 4 inches, with some areas in the south possibly getting up to 6 inches. The prediction was changed to 4-6 inches. There is a warning for very cold weather in the area.
Kevin Guthrie, the Director of the State Division of Emergency Management, told reporters that there will be ice up to half an inch thick, which could impact roads and potentially cause power cuts in the Panhandle and North Florida’s Big Bend area.
Guthrie said, “If you don’t have to be driving, don’t drive.” “If you need to drive, make sure to keep your speed low.” Be sure you know how to drive safely in these situations. If you don’t want to, it might be best to just walk.
