ORLANDO, Fla. — The family of Florida state Sen. Geraldine Thompson said she died Thursday after having problems with her knee replacement surgery. She was 76 years old.
The Democrat from the Orlando area had been in the Florida Legislature since 2006. The last time she was in the Florida Senate was in 2022. Her last job was in the Florida Senate, where she worked from 2012 to 2016. She was also a member of the Florida House from 2006 to 2012 and again from 2018 to 2022.
Thompson’s family said in a statement, “Her unwavering dedication to making the world a better place for future generations was shown by her tireless work in education, healthcare, and civil rights, including her leadership in establishing the Wells’Built Museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando.”
He was the vice chair of the Appropriations Committee on Pre-K–12 Education. She also served on the Rules, Judiciary, Military and Veterans Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security, and the Education Postsecondary, Pre-K–12, and Education committees.
