The woman who died on an Air France trip was a member of the Kansas Air National Guard, according to the police.
NBC News reports that Air France said in a news release that the customer “was taken ill” on a trip from Paris to Boston on Tuesday, January 14.
A news release from the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) was seen by PEOPLE. It said that detectives from the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit and the Crime Scene Services Section went to the scene at Logan International Airport in Boston.
Air France said in a statement, “Even with the help of a doctor on board, the customer could not be saved.”
The woman has been named by MSP as Barbara Dipoli, 53, of Topeka, Kansas.
NBC Boston and The Boston Globe both say that Dipoli was in the Kansas Air National Guard.
State police said it looked like the woman died “during the flight” because of a medical episode.
The Kansas Air National Guard said in 2015 that DiPoli “served approximately 22 months in Iraq over two deployments.” That same year, she started a new job with the service.
The exact reason and way that Dipoli died have not been made public. The state cops say there was “an unattended death.”
“Our thoughts are with her family and friends,” MSP said in a statement.
NBC News reports that Air France said, “This sad event is regretted and our deepest condolences are sent.”
People asked Air France for a reply, but they didn’t answer right away.
Based on NBC News, Air France said that its flight crews “are regularly trained to handle these kinds of situations.”
