A Florida woman is incarcerated for reportedly using a gardening tool to beat a guy who canceled their plans with her.
A number of criminal charges resulted from the event, which happened near Frostproof, Florida, early on Tuesday morning.
Melanie Davis, 47, who has a long criminal past, was unhappy when the man canceled their scheduled meeting, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said that last week, Davis was supposed to “hang out” with the man. But she was furious when he chose to call off their plans.
Davis arrived at the man’s house at around three in the morning on Tuesday and started shouting at him from outside.
After Davis allegedly scaled a fence to enter his property and forced his way through a door to enter the house, the altercation swiftly got out of hand.
After entering, Davis allegedly started striking the man, which resulted in a fight. Investigators said that as the situation worsened, Davis reached for a common gardening equipment, a garden hoe, and attacked the man.
His arm was severely injured by the impact, necessitating emergency medical care. Davis was arrested on the spot, and the man was later sent to the hospital for treatment of the wound.
A number of criminal accusations have been brought against Davis, including simple battery, aggravated battery with a lethal weapon, armed burglary with battery, and criminal mischief.
Given the brutality and weapon used, her actions were considered particularly concerning. Even though this is a serious scenario, Davis has before encountered law enforcement.
According to jail records, Davis has a criminal history that dates back to 1997 and 27 prior arrests in Polk County.
Petty theft to more serious acts like violence causing serious injury are among her prior arrests. She was really arrested in March 2024, just a few months ago, on suspicion of domestic abuse against an individual over 65.
The severity of the altercation in this most recent episode was probably exacerbated by Davis’ criminal past, which shows a lengthy history of violent behavior.
