MIAMI — Reports say that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out raids in South Florida on Sunday. This comes as President Trump starts to follow through on his promise to deport more illegal immigrants.
One man privately told CBS News Miami his wife was taken during one of these raids.
The Miami office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) announced on X that federal law enforcement carried out several immigration enforcement actions on Sunday. Agents from ICE’s Miami office said they have arrested some undocumented migrants for different crimes in South Florida, including Broward and Martin counties.
A guy, who wished to remain anonymous, told CBS News Miami that ICE took his wife during a raid in the Brownsville area of Miami.
“What they’re doing right now is awful,” he said. “It’s really awkward.”
The man told CBS News Miami that he hopes Mr. Trump will allow his wife to stay in the U.S. because their 11th anniversary is this Friday.
When asked if she was working on her U.S. citizenship, the guy told CBS News Miami that she was currently in the middle of the process. The man’s wife, who is from Venezuela and has lived in the U.S. for a few years, had a court date arranged and everything seemed fine until then.
“They just came and took her,” the man told CBS News Miami.
The man’s wife was one of three people taken during the Brownsville raid. The other two were guys who were said to work in construction.
The ICE raids happened when Mr. Trump arrived at his Doral golf club on Saturday night, where he will hold a conference for Republican leaders.

The man told CBS News Miami that he wants to tell the president: “If I get a chance to talk to you, please let’s find a way to work together.” I want my wife to stay here in the United States. “She has earned her place here.”

ICE said it took nearly 1,000 people into custody nationwide on Sunday, compared to just under 300 the day before.
