A local therapy dog and her owner have a busy schedule in the coming weeks. They will be participating in dog shows and assisting people affected by the serious wildfires in California.
Randi Chylinski and Ziggy are doing some basic training at Belle Isle Park before the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show this weekend.
“We began obedience training, and she really enjoyed it.” “I thought, let’s try something new, like dog showing,” said Chylinski.
Chylinski felt that Ziggy was unique right after the first show.
“She has likely participated in more than 200 dog shows.” She said, “It’s almost every other weekend, if we have the money.”
The 4-year-old Borzoi was born the runt of the litter. Chylinski and Ziggy divide their time between Michigan and California, where she works as a post-production producer for scripted TV shows. Ziggy got her name from Post Malone, one of the most famous singer-songwriters in the country, thanks to her Hollywood ties.
After Ziggy competes in the Westminster Kennel Club Show, she will return to Los Angeles to help comfort people affected by the wildfires.
The Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs group says that petting a dog can be healing.
“You can see how it makes hard things softer, and that’s the best part.” “It’s a calm and peaceful presence,” said Jane Porter, vice president of Mid-Michigan Therapy Dogs.
Ziggy has been doing rehab work for years, often visiting hospitals in the Metro Detroit area.
“She enjoys meeting new people,” Chylinski said.
Chylinski’s apartment in Los Angeles was not damaged by the wildfire, but she has friends who lost everything. That’s why she wanted to help.
“I’ll make time for it because it really matters,” she said.
First, Ziggy will fight for the best of breed at one of the largest dog shows in the world.
“The risks are big, but she can succeed completely.” “She’s prepared for it,” Chylinski said.
The Westminster Kennel Club Show begins on Saturday. People in Michigan can meet Chylinski and Ziggy at the Motor City Winter Dog Classic from February 13 to 16 at the Suburban Showplace in Novi.
