A company in Texas is pulling its pre-packaged sausage links because pieces of a pen were found inside.
The company, D.J.’s Boudain, LLC, of Beaumont, Texas, is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to recall approximately 17,720 pounds of boudain sausage link products that may be contaminated with foreign materials, it was revealed.
The fresh and frozen boudain sausage links were made on January 23, 2025, and sent to stores, restaurants, and wholesalers in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. A customer discovered a piece of a pen in their Original Boudain sausage, which led to the recall statement.
Since there is one recorded mouth injury, it seems the customer had a good reason to notify the company. The recall was revealed shortly after. Fortunately, FSIS has not gotten any more reports of injuries or illnesses from eating the sausage products.
To check your refrigerator and freezer, look for goods with the D.J. Boudain name. They come in Original Boudain or Jalapeno Boudain flavors. Check for the establishment number “EST. 13246” in the USDA inspection mark.
If you have pre-packaged D.J. Boudain sausages with that label at home, please do not eat them. Instead, throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them.
