ANTRIM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — In Pennsylvania, someone stole 100,000 eggs from the back of a trailer, and the cops are still trying to figure out who did it.
Four days after the theft that law enforcement say could be tied to the sky-high cost of eggs, no leads have come in, Trooper First Class Megan Frazer, a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania State Police, said Wednesday.
“We depend on tips from community members.” “We’re hoping someone has information and will call us with tips,” she said.
Police are speaking with potential witnesses and checking video footage to help find the suspect as quickly as possible.
“In my career, I’ve never heard of a hundred thousand eggs being stolen before.” “This is really different,” said Frazer, who has been working for twelve years.
Bird flu is causing farmers to kill millions of chickens each month, leading to U.S. egg prices more than doubling since the summer of 2023. It seems that there might not be any help coming soon as Easter gets closer.
In December, the average price for a dozen eggs across the country was $4.15. That’s not as high as the record of $4.82 set two years ago, but the Agriculture Department thinks egg prices will go up another 20% this year.
Police said that on Saturday at around 8:40 p.m., 100,000 eggs were stolen from the transport trailer of Pete & Gerry’s Organics in Antrim Township.
Frazer said that they are valued at around $40,000, making this crime a felony.
Pete & Gerry’s Organics LLC stated that they are cooperating with the police to look into the theft.
“We are serious about this issue and will work to fix it as soon as we can,” the message said.
