Police: Man Fatally Abuses Girlfriend’s 2-Year-Old While She Shops for Groceries

A 22-year-old guy from New Hampshire is charged with killing his girlfriend’s 23-month-old son by assaulting him while she was out grocery shopping.

According to a statement from the Attorney General’s Office of New Hampshire, Annthoni Bliss is accused of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Luca Hudson in January 2024.

On the morning of January 14, 2024, the Keene Police Department and medical staff arrived at an apartment to assist a young child experiencing medical difficulty.

Luca was unconscious and not breathing when they got there.

Only a month before his second birthday, he passed away three days after paramedics hurried him to the hospital.

Bliss, who had been seeing Luca’s mother for a month before the incident after knowing her for years, was charged following a more than year-long investigation, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit.

The medical examiner concluded that homicide was the method of death and that blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death.

Both Bliss and the boy’s mother denied causing Luca any harm. Police claimed Bliss, Luca, and the boy’s older sibling had been staying at his girlfriend’s residence.

In the days preceding his death, Luca had no symptoms of damage, according to detectives.

According to the complaint, investigators believe the assault occurred the night before police arrived at the residence after Luca’s mother took a nearly hour-long excursion to the grocery shop, based on interviews and security footage.

The defendant did not suggest that something might be wrong in the text texts she exchanged with Bliss while she was out. According to him, Luca’s older brother had gone to sleep.

At first, Bliss and Luca’s mother—who has not been charged with a crime—did not inform police that the suspect was spending time alone with the youngster.

According to the affidavit, he informed police in December that he was talking to his sister on the phone while his girlfriend was abroad, but investigators were unable to discover any proof the two actually communicated.

According to police, his sister ceased speaking to law authorities after initially claiming to be on the phone with Bliss.

According to the affidavit, investigators also spoke with a next-door neighbor who claimed to have heard Luca sobbing for up to an hour while the boy’s mother was out shopping.

The mother and Bliss stayed in their bedroom after she got back from the supermarket.

Police stated he made no mention of Luca’s injuries. When Bliss passed Luca’s room a few hours later, she heard vomit. Luca had vomited on his pajamas and in the crib.

According to police, the youngster complained of a headache while staying in their bed with his mother and Bliss after taking a shower. According to his mother, he appeared to be okay otherwise.

However, following the shower, Bliss subsequently told detectives that Luca’s head felt “soft” and “squishy.”

According to the affidavit, investigators then discovered that he searched the internet for two terms at that time: “2 year old, head squishy” and “2 year old head head now swollen head squishy.”

Despite his worries, he never dialed 911; according to police, his girlfriend did so a few hours later.

Physicians observed According to the affidavit, Luca had “substantial internal bleeding” on his brain but displayed minimal visible indicators of harm.

Additionally, he experienced bleeding in both of his eyes. According to medics, he died as a result of his brain swelling.

According to the affidavit, medical experts concluded that there was a “complete absence of any alternative accidental explanation.”

They were able to pinpoint the exact moment that the damage was caused—when Bliss and Luca were by themselves while the mother was at the store.

Bliss was taken into custody by police on Wednesday night. April 3 is the day of his upcoming court appearance. At the Cheshire County Jail, he is still detained.

The boy was described in Luca’s obituary.

“Luca loved turtles, dogs, coloring and watching his favorite TV show, Mickey Mouse. He also enjoyed making a lot of noise, playing catch with balls and spending time playing with his brother,” according to the obituary.
