Princeton University’s $210 Million in Federal Funds on Hold as Trump Administration Investigates Campus Antisemitism

According to reports, the Trump administration is halting about $210 million in federal money for Princeton University while it looks into possible antisemitism on the Ivy League school’s campus.

A Trump administration official told the Daily Caller on Monday that Princeton has continued to implement racist and antisemitic practices.

The official stated that the suspension of the money intended for the prestigious New Jersey school does not signify the conclusion of the administration’s investigation into antisemitism.

Earlier this month, the Department of Education’s civil rights division threatened to withhold federal funds from 60 schools and institutions, including Princeton, for alleged antisemitic harassment and discrimination on campus.

According to the university’s annual report, the institution, which has an endowment of over $34 billion, earned $456 million in funding from government contracts and grants last year.

Last year, Princeton received a “F” grade from the Anti-Defamation League for its handling of antisemitism on campus.

The inquiry into antisemitism at Garden State University began during the Biden administration.

After Zachary Marschall, editor-in-chief of the right website Campus Reform, complained to the DOE about Princeton’s purported inaction on campus antisemitism, the investigation was started in April 2024.

”The violent words of these protesters completely disregard the atrocities Hamas has already committed and promises to commit in the future against the people of Israel, including raping, murdering, and kidnapping civilians,” Marschall stated.

About $400 million in federal payments from Columbia University were previously frozen due to antisemitism concerns by President Trump‘s Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, which consists of the General Services Administration, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Columbia University consented earlier this month to comply with nine requirements in order to regain its federal funding.

As it considers whether to return the funds to the New York Ivy League School, the Trump administration is presently examining the modifications.

The Trump administration said Monday that the antisemitic task force is also looking into multi-year federal grant obligations with Harvard University totaling more than $8.7 billion.

The DOE said the investigation will also include $255 million in contracts Harvard holds with the federal government.

The Trump administration is restraining the taxpayer-funded grants by citing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which forbids higher education institutions from receiving federal funds if they engage in or permit discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, or other characteristics.
