Seven police officers were shot after responding to a call late Wednesday about a family member in danger and requiring emergency assistance at an apartment in San Antonio, officials said.
However, as police arrived at the location, they were shot one after the other, according to San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus.
McManus said the man was found shot dead in the residence following a several-hour standoff. They are still examining whether it was self-inflicted or caused by the SWAT team that was sent in, he said.
According to police, all of the officers are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The first officer who responded was shot in the lower extremities, and the second officer was shot shortly after, according to authorities.
A third officer came on the scene and was shot, followed by a fourth officer who was injured in the upper torso, according to authorities.
No further information was provided about the other three policemen.
The identity of the police officers involved have not yet been revealed, but McManus stated that each had between four and eight years of experience on the force.
Police have not yet identified the suspect, a male in his forties.
The suspect in the shooting was detained on Jan. 18 on two counts of assault and driving while intoxicated, according to police. He was currently out on bond, according to McManus.
