Thunderstorm Warnings Issued for Northeast Kansas as Storms Intensify

Severe Weather Expected This Weekend, Affecting 22 States Starting Sunday

Throughout March, the United States has seen severe weather, and sadly, this trend will continue for the third consecutive weekend as tens of millions of people in around two dozen states get ready for strong storms that begin on Sunday.

Over 2,000 severe weather reports have been made this month, including over 100 verified tornadoes amid fatal severe weather outbreaks.

A gigantic storm system that produced tornadoes, dust storms, blizzard conditions, and wildfires ripped across the United States about two weeks ago, killing over 40 people.

Communities from the Plains to the Southeast are still trying to clear debris and start the recovery process after hundreds of thousands of utility customers lost power due to thunderstorms that brought with them hurricane-force winds and striking lightning.

Prior to that, severe weather swept over the same regions, affecting millions of people. Damage was recorded in Texas and Oklahoma, and the danger forced the postponement of some Mardi Gras celebrations in the New Orleans area.

Mississippi also reported fatalities as a result of the extreme weather outbreak.

The last weekend of March is likely to see further severe weather

By late Saturday, the growing storm system is predicted to make its way into the Plains, where it will intensify throughout the course of the night as it moves eastward.

The system is expected to continue strengthening by Sunday, posing a threat of severe weather over a wide swath of the United States, from the Ohio Valley and southern Great Lakes region to the Gulf Coast.

Beginning on Sunday, about 52 million people in the region’s biggest cities will have to brace themselves for the prospect of strong to severe thunderstorms.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) identified a hazard area extending from Texas to Ohio on Thursday morning.

Dallas, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; St. Louis, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Columbus, Ohio are among the cities that are in danger.

The forecast will continue to be updated as the weekend draws near, although it is still a few days away.

Nonetheless, it seems that the system will have the capacity to produce tornadoes, destructive wind gusts, and huge hail across a significant portion of the country.

More than 63 million people will be on alert Monday as the threat moves from the Southeast to the mid-Atlantic and potentially some areas of the Northeast to the East Coast.

A severe weather danger zone that stretches from New Orleans to the Gulf Coast to Philadelphia and Washington was highlighted by the SPC.

Other cities like Atlanta, Georgia; Jacksonville, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Norfolk, Virginia, should also get ready for the potential of severe weather on Monday.
