Shocking Abuse: 9-Year-Old Tortured and Threatened to ‘Die’ by Woman Using Butter to Hide Signs

A woman in Pennsylvania is going to prison for severely hitting a 9-year-old girl, causing her injuries to prevent her from sleeping at night.

At one point during the savage attack, the woman told the girl to “die,” and she also tried to strangle the youngster.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, Esmeralda Lugo, 36, entered a guilty plea earlier this month to the January 2024 beating and was sentenced this week to four to eight years in state prison.

On Wednesday, the DA’s office issued a press release detailing Lugo’s charges and her admission of guilt from the previous year.

“(Lugo) hit the child victim multiple times in the face using the back of a brush in her residence in the 100 block of Kloss Drive the evening of Jan. 24, 2024,” according to DA’s office. “The assault caused a noticeable injury to the victim’s eye, which Lugo attempted to conceal using multiple techniques including ice, makeup, salt and butter.”

The DA’s office claims that after the victim came in and told a staff member about the alleged attack two days later, a school counselor reported it.

Later that same day, the child and an infant sister were taken from Lugo’s residence by Lancaster County Children & Youth and Manor Township Police.

“Speaking to police, the victim said her injuries were so painful that she was unable to sleep on the bruised side of her face,” according to the DA’s office statement. “Lugo also punched the victim in the back and placed her hands around the victim’s neck as if choking her while repeating the word ‘die’ … The victim told investigators she was unable to breathe for about 10 seconds while Lugo choked her.”

Lugo was sentenced this week by a judge on charges of strangling and severe assault. She must serve at least four years in prison before she may be released on parole.
