A bill being discussed in the Iowa House would prohibit margarine and two food additives in the lunches and meals provided in Iowa schools. Representative Jeff Shipley from Fairfield is in charge of discussing the bill.
The bill talks about Red Dye number 40, which comes from oil. It’s one of a half dozen food dyes that will be banned from California school lunches starting in 2028.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who President Trump has chosen to head an important government agency, is questioning the food supply in the country and how Americans eat. A bill that passed a subcommittee in the Iowa House would prevent schools in the state from serving margarine to kids.

Shipley says he likes butter because it has healthy fats. The bill’s current version would also prohibit Yellow Dye 7, which is found in soaps and makeup. Margarine isn’t naturally yellow. In fact, many states had rules that made margarine either pink or prohibited yellow margarine. Wisconsin still does not allow businesses to serve margarine unless a customer requests it.
