A mother from Texas is in trouble with the law after she was discovered lying outside in freezing weather with her two young kids.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies answered a 911 call about a woman with her children outside at 12062 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
The caller said that three people were lying on a sidewalk during a heavy snowfall that weather experts called historic.
When the cops arrived, they found the woman with her one-year-old and two-month-old children. Both babies had cold-related injuries and received help right away, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the mother appeared to be under the influence and is being charged with putting her child in danger.
Local news outlets also reported that the woman reportedly took a nap on the ground and an open alcoholic beverage was found near her. Early Tuesday morning, the temperature in Houston was 28 degrees, and there was snow on the ground.
Most of the Houston area received two to four inches of snow starting Monday night, with some places getting up to five inches.
Temperatures will stay below freezing, creating dangerous and icy roads.
